Parents, Guardians, and Spectators

We would like to thank you for your past and continued support of the Conant High School athletic programs.   As I watch the professional sports teams on TV playing before empty stadiums, I am reminded that athletes do not play the games simply for the roar of the crowd.  Sure athletes like to have the fans watch them and cheer them on, but in reality, the most important thing is to play the games, compete, and be with teammates.   After a cancelled spring season, our schools will be playing six sports this fall; boys and girls cross-country, boys and girls golf, girls tennis, and girls swimming.  With the resumption of sports, the Illinois High School Association and the Illinois Department of Public Health, has issued some very specific guidelines for how we will conduct sports.   Some of the guidelines which address competitions have specific impacts on fans.  Based upon our interpretation of the guidelines, District 211 wants to make you aware of the restrictions we will have at athletic events this fall.  I want to remind you these guidelines are designed to keep both the athletes and spectators safe and healthy, while allowing them to compete.  District 211 will not have fans present at inside athletic events like girls swimming because the guidelines limit us to 50 total individuals within the pool walls.  We desire to offer opportunities for the largest number of swimmers to compete when possible.   When you bring two swim teams together, with coaches, officials, and other essential personnel we just do not have room in the pools for fans.   The one exception is for “Senior Night(s)”.  We will be reaching out to parents and guardians of seniors to allow them an opportunity for a limited number to attend an event live to watch their senior compete and honored by their coach for their commitment to the swim program.  I will share specifics on this with senior parents in the future.  Golf, cross-country, and tennis will allow spectators with the following restrictions:

·        Spectators are to be in a designated area for spectators

·        Spectators will wear a mask at all times

·        Spectators will maintain a six feet of social distance between households

·        Spectators must maintain six feet of social distance from all competitors

·        Spectators are not allowed contact (high five, hand shake, etc.) with competitors

We will be broadcasting girls swimming/diving events on YouTube and link will be sent to parents. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.  Thank you for your support.  Go Cougars!
